Beats Studio Headphones

Beats Studio Headphones

Beats Studio are over-the-head, full size headphones. They are collapsible for storage or carrying but don’t expect this to make them that much smaller. They are durable and I found the construction to be sturdy and of high quality.

After listening to distinctly different playlists ranging from classic rock to jazz to trance to hip hop, not only did they perform very well sonically throughout, after four straight hours they were still comfortable. Admirable - but that could be said for more than a few headphones on the market today and at $300, there are a lot of choices so … why these?

Beats Studio features what Beats calls Adaptive Noise Cancelling that has two modes:
Mode 1: The headphone automatically employs just enough noise cancelling to quiet interfering background noise allowing you to listen to your music, movies or games at “healthier” levels
Mode 2: ANC only – increases the ANC amount to it’s maximum
Note: All active noise compensation circuits, no matter what brand’s system is employed only really impacts frequencies between 400Hz and 2KHz so higher frequencies (human voice typically peaks around 2KHz – 8KHz) are not attenuated.
In my opinion, the ANC system as delivered by Beats in this headphone does provide the benefit expected and is a plus feature well worth paying for.
Remote Talk Cable – these headphones handle incoming calls as you would expect from a feature thusly named. If you are listening to music or a movie or gaming on your smart phone and a call comes in, you can take the call or ignore it. Taking the call pauses the prior activity and after the call, the activity resumes. The mic works well and calls were conducted with clarity on both ends. The function works as advertised.

  • Sound Quality: 8/10 - This is across all types of music, which is no small feat!
  • Comfort: 9/10 – I was still happy to have them on my head after four straight hours
  • Materials / Durability: 9/10 – I put these through the sit-on, bend and drop test: They passed! The look and feel were representative of quality
  • Fashion Quotient: 5/10 – unless you are looking for a headphone in Red, Black or White (these are the available colors), then I’d give these a 10/10!
  • Price/ Features: $300 - ANC and Remote Talk justify the premium price.
Considering the sound quality, comfort and materials, Beats Studio is rated a “Buy” by this reviewer.
